A Word from Office Scheduler Kelly: Hands-On Learning at Smile Savers Dentistry

I have been working here at Smile Savers Dentistry in Columbia, MD for over a year, all the while taking classes at Anne Arundel Community College. I’m taking classes working towards becoming a dental hygienist. Everything I have been learning here at the office and in my classes has given me a great advantage. For example, I’m currently enrolled in a radiology class at the MSDA (Maryland State Dental Association). With this course I’m learning about what the X-rays do, how to properly take them and why it is important for the doctor to have dental X-rays on the patients when they come in for their appointment.

Not only have my classes been helpful in the work I do at Smile Savers, but the real advantage I have is working with a wonderful staff including two of the greatest dental assistants (CJ and Carolyn) and two of the best hygienists (Beth and Natalie) I have ever met. They take the time to show me different techniques when working with patients, whether it is by showing me different position placement for X-ray sensors or helping perio-chart for the patient.

Working in the dental office and taking classes is one of the best things I have ever done. I’m able to take my knowledge from my classes and apply them to my everyday job, along with the help of Dr. Stewart and his great dentist office.
