Dr. Daniel Stewart at Smile Savers Dentistry in Columbia MarylandFearing the dentist and dental procedures affect a significant amount of adults in the US to differing degrees. About 5 to 10% of US adults are so fearful of receiving dental treatment that they will avoid dental care at all costs. But dental issues that are left untreated can lead to serious health problems, so overcoming this fear is a must for good oral, and overall, health.

Emergency dental patients welcome at Smile Savers Dentistry Columbia MD

Don’t live with dental pain due to your fear of the dentist.

There are several levels of fear about going to the dentist, and there is a difference between anxiety, fear and phobia. Dental anxiety is basically a fear of the unknown. Most people experience some degree of dental anxiety, especially if they’re about to have a procedure that they’ve never experienced before. Dental fear is a reaction to a known or experienced danger (“I know what the dentist is going to do, and I’m really scared!”). Dental phobia is a more intense form of dental fear. It can be so intense that it causes a person to feel sick and/or overwhelmed.

Fear not! We’ve learned many techniques to help our patients overcome their fears. The staff at Smile Savers Dentistry provides a fun, caring and nurturing environment. The biggest step is to let us know if you are having any fear or anxiety about your dental appointment so that we can help put you at ease. We’ll explain your procedure step-by-step and answer all of your dental questions and concerns.

“Wonderful people! Haven’t been to a dentist in years – too scared! But Dr. Stewart and his assistant CJ made my fears a better experience than expected. Will be back for additional work. Great staff!” E.G. of Columbia, MD

At Smile Savers Dentistry You’ve Entered the No Judgement Zone: by Dr. Daniel Stewart

Dr. Daniel Stewart at Smile Savers Dentistry in Columbia MarylandToo often when a new (sometimes emergency) dental patient comes in, we are told it has been two, three … maybe even up to 5 years since their last cleaning or exam. When asked why they have waited so long, the main reason given is actually a tie. They have either had a bad prior experience with another dentist … or it has been so long since their last visit that they were too embarrassed to come in, so they continued to put it off until something was wrong.

The simple fact is, that as dentists, we really do see a lot of bad teeth … all of the time. Although you may think that your teeth need a lot of work, this is not new or unusual to what we see, sometimes on a daily basis. If shame, embarrassment or even guilt are keeping you away from making an appointment with a dentist, you’ve got a lot of company. That being said, don’t let any of those issues get in the way of getting the dental help you need and deserve.

At Smile Savers Dentistry, we don’t judge, yell or lecture. Our friendly and caring Columbia, MD dental staff wants all of our patients to be healthier and happier during and after their treatment. We believe that a healthy mouth helps to make a healthy body! We will help you take care of your oral health and keep your teeth looking beautiful and feeling healthy for as long as you are a patient of ours. After visiting our dentist office, you will have a healthy mouth and you can then feel proud that you overcame something that once seemed impossible!
